ness from the value of their goods, wares, and merchandise, but only h·om the value of the notes,

assessorsl books from those used lor white persons.
VI. Assessors must be particular and follow strictly the blanks sent to them; till up under each

INSTRUCTIONS.
I. Assessors must ask all persons subject to taxation the following questions, after swearing them,
to—wit:
I. Does the foregoing schedule contain arfull and complete list of all property owned by you, or
which you are interested in, or which is under your control as executor, administrator, guardian,
trustee, agent, or in any other capacity, out of which money can be realized, and which is not
specifically exempt by law from taxation?
2. Have you deducted from the amount you have listed under the equalization law any debts or
liabilities except those you owe in your individual capacity, or have you deducted what you are
bound for as security?
ll. .—\ssessors must value all property listed hir taxation, and which it is their duty to value, at
what it will sell for in t`//7'/'<`/{Q1', and not in gold; and it must be valued at what it will sell for at a

INSTRUCTIONS.
I. Assessors must ask all persons subject to taxation the following questions, after swearing them,
to-wit:
I. Docs the tbregoing schedule contain a full and complete list of all property owned by you, or
which you are interested in, or which is under your control as executor, administrator, guardian,
trustee, agent. or in any other capacity, out of which money can be realized, and which is not °
specifically exempt by law from taxation?
2. Have you deducted from the amount you have listed under the equalization law any debts or
liabilities except those you owe in your individual capacity, or have you deducted what you are
bound hir as security?
` II. Assessors must value all property listed for taxation. and which it is their duty to value, at -
 3 what it will sell h>r in {//7'/'t`/I1;]’, and not in gold; and it must be valued at what it will sell for at a

lll. All property, except that of merchants, manuliicturers, and grocers, must be listed and valued
as oi the lOtIl of january, and merchants, manufacturers, and grocers must be listed between the 1st
of April and Ist of May, and their goods, wares, and merchandise valued as of the ist day of April.
.i\ll go >ds and meixrhandise owned by them, whether in their stores or shops, or in course of ship-
ment to them, are subject to taxation, and must be listed.
IV. Merchants, maiiuiacturers, and grocers have no right·to deduct the amount of their indebted-
ness from the yalue of their goods, wares, and merchandise, but only from the value of the notes,
accounts, and bills of exchange owned by them alone. _
V. The property of negroes, mulattoes, and Indians must be listed on separate schedules and
‘ assessorzi books from those used for white persons.
VI. 1\sst~ssors must be particular and follow strictly the blanks sent to them; fill up under each
heading. If this is done, no mistake is likely to occur.
VII. Assessors must be particular and see that no property be
