j was directed to tender to Professor M. A. Scovell the Direct-
j orship of the Experiment Station on behalf of the Executive ·
i Committee, Professor Scovell having been highly recom-
| mended for this position by Professor H. A. Weber and .
j others. To the President of the Agricultural and Mechanical _ L
,i College of Kentucky and to Judge W. B. Kinkead, Major
, R. S. Bullock, Dr. R. J. Spurr and Major P. P. Johnston, all ‘ _
_ `· of Lexington and Fayette County, we owe the credit of
jg founding an institution which from small beginnings has , ~'
{J grown to a position of great usefulness to the State at large.  —

I the Experiment Station the following November. In 1886,  { 
the General Assembly designated the Experiment Station as
the Kentucky Agricultural Experiment Station and passed Q
* t an act regulating the sale of commercial fertilizers in the   l·l` A
» 2 State and empowered the Director of the Experiment Station    
·   to make official analyses of such products under the law and  
l to make all necessary rules and regulations for its proper  
' j enforcement. In the spring of 1886, all tillable land owned  
’ l by the College was assigned to the Experiment Station for  
* l mild experiments and during the same year, Professor A. M.  Zi?
