{ I » GENERAL PLAN OF THE UNIVERSITY.
Il Tun University embraces several Colleges, each under the
I immediate government of its own Faculty and Presiding Cihcer.
The general supervision of the University as a whole is com-
mitted to the Regent, who is elected from among the Curators,
and is cm-ojieio Chairman of the Executive Committee, and
I whose duty it is, in connection with them, to see that the gen-
I I eral laws and statutes of the University are faithfully executed.
3 I I I Each College is divided into several Schools or Departments
I of Study; and each school is under the immediate government
i' I HHLI IDSIYLICLIOII of It COIHPCIZGDID IPYOIIGSSOI`, assisted WIIGD 1lGCOS—
sary by subordinate Instructors and Tutors.
III The Colleges of the University are severally styled-
    1. The College of Science, Literature, and Arts.
·, I 2. The Agricultural and Mechanical College of Kentucky.
I 3. The College of the Bible.
agi A -l. The Normal College.
‘ II I 5. The College of Law.
R G. The College of Medicine.
I While the course of study and instruction in each College
I I is full and complete, yet the four first named above are so
I associated that a student regularly matriculated in any one of
I them, may have the beneiit of instruction in the others without
(k additional charge for tuition.
There are some features in the plan of Kentucky University
which are peculiar. The general superintendence of the whole

Faculty, but who is the representative of the Curators and i
Donors, gives unity to the whole plan; while the distribution i ,
· of the executive labor and responsibility among the presiding
officers of the several colleges secures efficiency in every de- i
partment. Tl1e several colleges thus associated furnish the
most liberal provisions for education, whether collegiate or ~
professional, general or special; and that, too, without tl1e
expense and embarrassments that would result from a dupli- V _
cation of professorships. If a young man desires to pursue a i A it
Classical course exclusively, he can do so, and receive a cer-
tificate of graduation for the same. If he desires to devote ·
himself to Science or Arts, to receive a good Commercial and
` Business education, to graduate as a Civil Engineer, or to study
Mining or any other specialty, he will enjoy the like facilities l ’
without additional expense. Should a student desire to 1·educe 1 .
i the ordinary expenses of board and tuition, the Agricultural , l
College presents to him the oppo1·tunity for laboring, at a l . L ; l
reasonable compensation, on the College Farm, or in the
Mechanical Shops, while he is receiving thorough instruction l
in Science and Literature. This union of study and labor
is thus, not only economical, but also conservative of health A
and good morals. I
·· The Agricultural and Mechanical College also embraces a. l
l thorough course of instruction in Military Tactics, which is i
y made valuable as a means of physical development as well as
` i of collegiate discipline. t *. r
i This general plan of the University, with its peculiar features _
l of government and discipline, with its Associated Colleges \
l and thei1· separate Schools, and with its various Elective ,
\ Courses of Study, including Industrial Education, with all its i `
, economic arrangements, makes it emphatically an Institution `
W for {he People. j ·_

I instruction shall be generally established, an Academy of Pre- 1
“ 4 paratory Instruction shall be conducted in connection with the
i University, the immediate management of which will be com-

V l GENERAL GOVERNMENT. i
A I The general government of the University is vested in the
_ L ; 1 Board of Curators, which consists of not less than thirty mem- l
bers, representing the Donors, under the conditions prescribed
in-the charter.
The delegated and representative powers of the Corporation
are vested in the Regent and Executive Committee.
The immediate government of the students of the University
is committed to the Faculties thereof—each student being
amenable to the Faculty of that College to which he belongs
by virtue of his matriculation. l
{_ ’ The. Board of Visitors of the Agricultural and Mechanical
College of Kentucky consists of six members, who are ap-
I pointed by the Governor of the State, with the advice and
