UK's defense went to work in the second half, holding star forward Randy Wittman scoreless for the first seven minutes of the second half, and during that stretch, the Wildcats jumped out to a ten-point lead. Indiana got within two, however, and it took clutch free throw shooting in the end to seal the victory. Melvin Turpin led the Wildcats with 16 points.
*It was "THE GAME." The long awaited matchup between the University of Kentucky Wildcats and University of Louisville Cardinals took place in the finals of the Mideast Regional of the NCAA tournament. The winner moved on the the Final Foul in Albuquerque. It was a very intense and exciting game and was well worth the wait. Kentucky executed their game plan to perfection in the first half, shooting 62 percent and turning the ball over only four times. UK held a 13-point advantage at the half. Louisville's press took over in the early
going in the second half, causing UK to turnover the ball and losing their lead with 11:40 to go. UK settled down and the two teams traded baskets up to the :17 second point when UK called a timeout with the score tied at 60. At that time, Dirk Minniefield saw an opening and drove to the basket, His layup hit the glass and rim and appeared to be deflected but it did not go in and it resulted in a 10-foot shot by Lancaster Gordon with ten seconds to go. UK showed its heart and came back, with Jim Master hitting a 12-foot jumper as the buzzer sounded, sending the game into overtime. The Cards kept up the press in the OT, and reeled off 14 straight points to seal the victory 80-68. UK finished their season with a 23-8 record.

*KyIe Macy of UK was selected to the 1978-79 Academic All-American basketball team by College Sports Information Directors across the na-
tion. Macy is a Business Administration major.
*The UK baseball team split a double-header with Florida. The Cats lost the first game 12-5 but came back to win the second one 7-4 behind the pitching of Joe Georger. Randy Gipson led the Cats to a 7-3 win over Florida Southern to gain a split of their two-game series. Southern won the first game 4-3. Kevin O'Connor was the winning pitcher for UK. UK also lost to Florida 19-13 in a slugfest and to Stetson 12-3. UK opened its southern swing with a 4-3 win over Tampa behind the five-hit pitching of Kerry Jolley.
TEN YEARS AGO
*Junior Kevin Grevey was awarded the "Most Valuable Player" award. Grevey is a junior and received the award at the annual banquet for the team. Coach Joe Hall vowed Kentucky would return to the top of the basketball world next season after his Cats finished the year with a 13-13 record.
