REMARKS: A number of agents held fall meetings for the
purpose of demonstrating the value of arsenate of lead to
control tobacco worms. Universally results have proven
satisfactory. Paris green was shown to be less effective
than arsenate of lead.
Alfalfa.
Number of Acres cut 1914 ____1___,,,,,,,,,r__________ 103
Average yield per Acre ....___________._.________.... 25;* tons
Number of Demonstrators seeding 1914 __,____,,,____ 206
" Acres in Demonstrations .._...,._,.._____ 1,054
" Acres due to Demonstration Work ____..._ 5,000 (estimated)
REMARKS: Hardly any failures in alfalfa demonstrations
have been reported. Wherever lime and phosphorus were
used in abundance, and the seed inoculated and sown pre- °
vious to September 10th, we have fine stands, and so far the
winter has not injured it. Some Turkestan seed was used by
mistake, and it is a failure. We are doing all we can to
keep people from using this seed.
Crimson Clover.
Very little sown before fall of 1914.
Number of Demonstrators ........_...... . ........,....... . ...,.. 165

" Acres due to Demonstration Work ........,.......... 6930
REMARKS: We think the greatest work for soil improve-
ment is accomplished with crimson clover. Until two years
ago it was practically unknown in Kentucky. It has proven
very successful in most localities; grows well with lime or
inoculation, and if we can get seed at a reasonable price
there will be very large areas seeded next year.
