 Mary Whitlock Fennell Disher was born Mary Whitlock Fennell on August 7, 1911 in Cynthiana, Kentucky. Her parents were Lee Arthur Fennell and Mary M. A. Fennell. Mary Whitlock Fennell graduated from Redland High School in Redland, Florida in June 1928. She entered the University of Kentucky in February of 1930, where she used the name Whitlock Fennell. She was a member of Alpha Xi Delta, Phi Upsilon Omicron, Guignol, Girl's Glee Club, Home Economics Club, and was the Treasurer of the Pan-Hellenic Council. She graduated in June 1933 with a B.S. in Home Economics. In the 1939 Alumni Survey, Ms. Disher indicated that she was living in Louisville with her husband I.C. Disher and working as the District 2 Home Economist for National Youth Administration.   
 
 The  Mary Whitlock Fennell papers and photographs  include memorabilia from Mary Whitlock Fennell's time at UK during the early 1930s. It includes thirty casual photographs of friends and campus events. It also includes some invitations, newspaper clippings, and commencement programs.

 Photographic Materials, circa 1930-1933   
 
 The  Photographic Materials  series consists of the photographs of Mary Whitlock Fennel focusing primarily on individuals, May Day, and Winter Scenes. There are photographs of Mary Halley Kerr, Myra Hart, and Mary Hart Parrish at the Art Center Garden at the University of Kentucky. There are also photographs of Louise Mitchell and unidentified snapshots of women in cap and gown for the 1933 University of Kentucky Commencement and also snapshots of other unidentified women. The May Day photographs consists of snapshots of the May 2, 1933 May Day celebration at the University of Kentucky. The Winter Scenes consists of snapshots of Mary Whitlock Fennel and friends outside in wintertime. Descriptions in quotation marks were derived from handwriting on the back of the photographs and others from direct observation.

 The  Papers  series consists of clippings, invitations, and programs. The clippings consist of three undated articles about tennis and UK sorority members. The invitations are for events, mainly Greek, at the University of Kentucky. The programs are a UK Commencement program from 1933 and a Vespers program from 1930.
