The University of Kentucky basketball team made its first overseas appearance since 1966 when it accepted an invitation from the Australian Basketball Federation to make a playing tour of the "Land Down Under."
Including a single game stop at Tahiti, the Wildcats played a gruelling 19 game schedule in only 23 days and travelled over 3,000 miles by bus, automobile and van through some of the most desolate but beautiful country in Australia.
The trip proved fruitful in many ways. The players, billeted in private homes, made countless friends and learned a new life-style. The technical side of the trip basketball showed a vast improvement also.
"We developed into a much better defensive team than when we started out on the tour," said coach Joe B. Hall, "and I thought we made great strides in playing unselfishly on offense."
