There was a lot of pressure on UK's football team even before the game with Florida began. This was the second regionally televised game in two weeks, and the outcome would be of prime importance to the officials of the long sought Liberty Bowl. Kentucky fans wanted that bowl.
A Liberty Bowl official had been present the week before when UK had stomped Vanderbilt. He had been impressed. If UK beat Sugar Bowl-bound Florida, Kentucky was promised top consideration for a bid.
UK took an early lead, 6-0, on a one yard keeper by Fanuzzi. Florida rebounded quickly in the second quarter scoring three TDs to take the lead, 17 6,
Kentucky pulled to within three points shortly before the half ended with a one-yard plunge by Joe Dipre and a two-point conversion pass from Fanuzzi to Stephens.
In the second half, UK's Art Still blocked a punt which Was carried to the Gator one yard line by Kevin Acheson. Campassi scored, and a
