What would you do with a dead horse, or worse, 1000 of them?
Local horse farms were asked to bring their dead horses to the Veterinary Science Department for a completely free autopsy. The department examined the animals for deformities, parasites and infectious diseases.
Further research could then be instigated from the results of the autopsy. They were kept for future reference and a full report was sent to the horse farm and its veterinarian for their benefit.
Since 1000 autopsies were performed yearly, the research files were extensive providing good background for research projects.
