The largest community concert organization in the United States was jointly sponsored by UK and the Lexington community. The Central Kentucky Concert and Lecture Series presented eight concerts and four lectures during the school year.
All presentations held in Memorial Coliseum were open to UK students with ID's free. Community admission was by membership only. Season cards were purchased for adults at $10 each and children under 14 for $5 .
Her majesty, Queen Elizabeth's two most important regiments, the Welsh Guards, Argyll and the Sutherland Highlanders, opened the
season with pomp and ceremony. Drums, pipes and dancers filled the air with an atmosphere of British tradition.
Following the October 7 concert, an October 16 lecture was conducted by Daniel Schoerr, a CBS News correspondent.
Covering world-wide affairs for 20 years, he has specialized in economic reporting and major documentaries. As a Washington correspondent since 1966, he covered the Watergate affair since its beginning winning an Emmy Award. As a result however, his name was disclosed as being on the "Top Twenty" White House enemy list.
Heywood Hale Broun, a former sports commentator, CBS News commentator and
one-time actor, lectured on December 3.
Robert Penn Warren, the only American writer to win the Pulitzer for both fiction and poetry, spoke March 10.
The author of "All The Kings Men" was born in Guthrie, Ky., and attended Vanderbilt University.
His lecture consisted of readings from his and others works. While here, he also gave a seminar in fiction arranged by the English department.
