. merican Kaleidoscope: Portrait of a People was the focus of UK Theatre for 1974-76. Both old and new American plays were presented in a celebration of the American Bicentennial.
This was "an attempt to confront the past while exploring the present and future; to see how our institutions and people of today lived up to the principles of our radical heritage."
Three plays in summer 1974 began the series. These plays included "Waiting for Godot" by Samuel Beckett, "The Effects of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds" by Paul Zindel, and "The White House Murder Case."
The Summer Repertory '75 included "LUV," "Brecht on Brecht," and "Hot I Baltimore."
October 9-12, the fall season of '74 opened with "The Rimers of Eldritch," a Vernon Rice Award winner. Written by Lanford Wilson and directed by Douglas Powell, the play was a striking mosaic which revealed the heart of a small mid-western town.
