Adams Says Vols Or Cats Will Be Choice
Staff Hits Road
While Kentucky has almost cleaned house in the Commonwealth with early verbal committments, Eastern Kentucky product Vic Adams is the apparent lone hold-out.
A 6-2, 238-pound lineman, Adams has reportedly narrowed his list to two, Kentucky and Tennessee. The Midd-lesboro senior has been near the top of Jerry Claiborne's list since last spring. Linemen come at a premium in college football and many believe Adams may be the best lineman to come out of the mountains in a long time.
Another Kentuckian who has been on the Kentucky list is 6-0, 190-pound Joey Hamilton of Louisville. He hasn't been rated as high as others, but has potential nevertheless.
Recruiting outside Kentucky is picking up some and the Cats are hard after 6-3, 247-pound defensive lineman Doug Houser of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He reportedly visited Syracuse last week and will tour Ole Miss this week.
Another high on the Big Blue list is tailback Al McKinney of Middletown, Ohio.
While Kentucky is putting a lot of effort on bordering states, the Wildcat staff became more particular on the junior college route and struck out in the process.
Kentucky was more aggressive the past two years because of low roster numbers. Now that the roster numbers have improved drastically, UK isn't as eager to risk JC signees as in the past.
According to UK sources, UK won't have any JC transfers coming in this year since they usually enroll at the beginning of the second semester.
