The 1936 Olympics were hosted in Berlin, Germany. Adolf Hitler used the games to demonstrate his power and prestige. In the same year, the Poultry Congress was held in Leipzig, Germany. Wightman collection on 1936 Olympics (dated circa 1936; 0.32 cubic feet; 2 boxes) includes postcards, photographs, and pamphlets relating to the 1936 Olympics in Germany as well as the World Poultry Congress. The collection is arranged into two series: photographs and papers. The Photographs series includes photographs of Olympic venues adorned with swastikas and photographs of the World Poultry Congress. One notable item (box 2, folder 3) is a small advertisement for a hotel that boasts having been the first Jew-free hotel, open for forty years.
