 4 THE QUARTERLY BULLETIN _
‘ The First Year
At the end of May, the Kentucky Committee for Mothers ,
and Babies, Inc., held its first birthday. We now offer our mem- 'ww
bers and many friends reports covering our work, and financial l
transactions, carried through April 30, 1926. This marks the al.
close of our first fiscal year.
Among the donations which have come in since that date is
a special gift of $6,000 from Mrs. Nathaniel Ayer of Boston,
for the building and equipping of a nursing center to be located
near where Beech and Middle Fork come together, as a memorial
to her mother, Jessie Preston Draper.
Another recent thing of special interest has been the drive
put over by the Hyden District Nursing Committee, through
Joseph E. Hart, George N. Morgan and Oma Lewis, for contri- ,
butions towards our permanent quarters to be built at Hyden '
this summer and fall. It has netted $731.50 to date. Some of ?
these gifts are in money and others in timber, stone, lumber,
locust fence posts, and the use of teams. One man has given l
himself for ten full days. Together with the $413.38 already i
on deposit with the county treasurer, they exceed the quota of >
one thousand dollars which was the goal of the Hyden district.
The balance of the twenty thousand dollars needed to complete
this center is being solicited from many sources. The Hyden ,
center needs must be larger than the others, not only because it l
serves the biggest population, at the county seat, but because it I
includes cottage hospital facilities, and is headquarters for A
county supervision. I
A third matter of note to us has been the visit of Miss n`
Elizabeth Perkins, President of the Film Mutual Benefit Bureau, g
of New York, and Miss Sophie Smith, who have taken wonderful
MOTION PICTURES of the people and beautiful scenery of ~
Leslie county. We will be glad to arrange to send them, with a
speaker, to any community or group making application.
