Brothers Four Are Overnight Guests Of Fijis
The Brothers Four, whose

re-

cording of "Green Fields" Is currently number one In Lexington,
visited the Fhl Oamma Delta fraternity house Wednesday night.
The nationally known quartet
were FIJis at the University of
Washington In Seattle when they
first began singing at fraternity
rush parties in 1958.
The Brothers Four performed at

concert at Centre. Bob Flick said
that although they were used to
much larger crowds "they were
very well pleased with the audience."
He added they would rather
perform for college audiences because they "can do longer shows
and aren't restricted."
While attending the University
of Washington, three of them, Bob

Centre College In Danville Wednesday night and afterwards drove to
Lexington with several of the Fijis
who attended the concert.
Operating on a tight schedule,
they left early yesterday morning
for a performance at the Southern
University Student Government
Associations meeting last night In
Hattlesburg, Miss.
About 500 people attended the

Flick. Dick Foley, and Mike Kirk-lanmajored in radio and television production. The intellectual of
the crowd is John Paine who
studied Soviet history.
When asked how they started
singing for an occupation, Flick
said, "We Just fell into it."
They had no intention of continuing to sing after the rush parties were over, but were persuaded
to send a tape recording of some
of their songs to Mort Lewis, who
manages Dave Brubeek.
"After that everything started
snowballing," Foley said.
Since graduation last spring they
have been on extended tours
throughout the nation.
Flick said the name "Brothers
Four" was easily decided on. "There
are four of us and we are fraternity brothers."
Words soon got around Lexington yesterday morning that the
Brothers Four were staying at the
Phi Oam house. Before they fin- d,

breakfast photographers

were waiting to take their pictures."
A local radio station's mobile
unit rushed to the airport to interview the quartet shortly before
they were to leave. WVLK presented the Brothers Four with a
copy of Hits In the Bluegrass on
which their recording of Green
Fields Is number one.

The cat, its teeth cracked and

nothing from its painful experiences. It goes on stalking and
leaping.
