^Defensive gridiron standout Keith Martin has been named the University of Kentucky's Male Athlete of the Year, while track star Tonya Lowe was selected as the school's Female Athlete of the Year.
Martin, a senior first-string defensive guard on this past season's team, started for the third consecutive year. He played a major cog in helping the 'Cats to a 6-5-1 season and a trip to the Hall of Fame Bowl, where they lost to West Virginia.
Martin proved he's an outstanding student as well by being named to the Southeastern Conference All-Academic team, a feat he also accomplished during his junior and sophomore years. He also was honored with the prestigious NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship.
A product of Owensboro Catholic High
School, Martin carries a 3.4 grade point average in accounting.
Lowe will be attending the Olympic Trials this month in Los Angeles. An All-America sprinter and hurdler, Lowe set a conference meet record when she captured the 100-meter hurdles earlier this season. In that event she recorded a time of 13.25.
Lowe, a strong performer in the classroom, too, finished first in the 60-yard hurdles in this year's Southeastern Conference Indoor Meet.

Coaching the Kentucky All-Stars will be Mayfield coach Jack Morris. It's being co-sponsored by the Lexington Kiwanis Club, where game proceeds will be donated to helping injured or stricken high school players or coaches in the two states.
Currently, the Kentucky-Tennessee All-Star clash is under a two-year contract, with the Volunteer State hosting next year's event.
^Auburn totalled the most points in the llth annual Bernie Moore Trophy, which is given to the Southeastern Conference school with the best finish in all athletic competition. Kentucky finished seventh in its chase for the coveted all-sports trophy.
i^77ze Cats' Pause has learned that UK baseball coach Keith Madison has recently added three signees. Those players are: Dan Eskew. a right-handed pitcher from Nashville; Jim Murphy, a hot-hitter from Shelby County; and Tim Swob, a southpaw hurler from Northeast Oklahoma A&M.
Eskew is ranked the nation's 12th best prospect by Collegiate Baseball. He finished with a 13-0 mark at McGavock High School, leading his team to the 3-A state title. In 75 innings of work. Eskew allowed 22 hits, walked 20. struck out 161 and had a scary 0.62 ERA.
Murphy, a transfer from Pearl River Junior College in Poplarville, Fla., hit .535 his senior season for Shelby County. A first baseman for Pearl River JC. Murphy smacked a .393 average with nine homers, 37 RBI and nine stolen bases.
Last season for Northeast Oklahoma A&M Swob worked 59 and two-thirds innings, striking out 89. He finished a 9-2 slate while owner of a handsome 1.78 ERA. Swob already has been drafted twiceMontreal and Kansas City.

^UK and Louisville announced that the two schools have signed a four-year pact to play each other on the hardwood.
Terms of the pact call for the two institutions to split a home-and-home series, with the initial contest to be played at Rupp Arena on Nov. 26.
Negotiations for the series began after the University of Kentucky Athletics Board followed up a Board of Trustees resolution to propose a Wildcat-Cardinal series. The two teams recently hooked up in this past season's Mideast Regional finals in Knoxville, where U of L won in overtime. That meeting marked the first time that Kentucky and Louisville had played each other on the basketball court since 1954.
^Wildcat sharpshooter Jim Master has earned a spot on the USA Pan American squad. With his selection on the Pan American team. Master automatically qualifies for a tryout with the USA Olympic team next April.
^Indiana High School All-Stars swept the Kentucky High School All-Stars in the annual two-game basketball series.
In the first game, Jerome Brewer, who has yet to sign a national letter of intent, scored 27 points while teammate Steve Alford contributed 26 points to pace the Hoosier All-Stars to a 96-87 victory.
Kentucky Mr. Basketball and future Wildcat Winston Bennett tossed in 26 points and grabbed a game-high 13 boards, to boot.
James Blackmon. who will be teaming up with Bennett at Kentucky, scored 26 points in the second meeting to lead Indiana to a 82-72 win. and with it a clean sweep of the two-game set.

>^The University of Kentucky tennis squad finished its season in super fashion, posting a 6-3 win over a talented Southern Illinois club. The 'Cat netters ended the 1974 campaign with a 22-9 slate.
>^UK's tennis team compiled the most points in four seasons in the SEC tourney. Scott Smith and Steve Gilliam carried the flag for the 'Cats. The two UK players advanced all the way to the tourney finals.
i^UK baseball players John Bowling and Marvis Foley were among the final season SEC leaders. Bowling struck out an SEC-high 79 batters for the season. Foley's seven triples and 41 runs scored also were top marks.
Hot-shooting Wildcat guard Jim Master earned a spot on the USA Pan American team, and with it carries an automatic ticket to the Olympic trials. repm photo
