             Biographical note
Gilbert W. Kingsbury was born in Covington, Kentucky on April 27, 1909. He graduated from Holmes High School in Covington and then attended the University of Kentucky, graduating in 1933 with majors in economics and journalism. In 1942, Kingsbury joined the staff of WLW Radio as an assistant editor in the newsroom. In 1944, he was promoted to editor. Ten years later in 1963, Kingsbury was appointed as Crosley's vice-president in charge of news operations. He left his position with Crosley a year later to accept a post as Deputy Commissioner to Kentucky Highway Commissioner, Henry Ward. It was not his first experience in state government. During the 1958-1960 sessions, he served in the Kentucky General Assembly as member from Kenton County. In 1961 he had served as acting director of the Division of Tourist and Travel Promotion. Kingsbury was actively involved in promoting Democratic party candidates both statewide and in his native Northern Kentucky. He participated in the successful gubernatorial campaigns of Bert Combs and Edward T. Breathitt. On the national level, Kingsbury served as administrative assistant to two United States Senators from Kentucky- Garrett Withers and Earle C. Clements. In 1936, Kingsbury married Sylvia Phillips of Covington. They are the parents of one son, Gilbert, Jr.

                     Scope and Contents note
The WLW Radio Series consists of two sub-groups. The first groups of records are only in oone folder which contains biographical sketches written by Marietta Drake in 1951 for use on WLW Radio. The sketches are arranged alphabetically by subject. The second group is larger and consists of broadcast scripts for the WLW program "Personalities in Your Government". Emphasis of the scripts is on natives of the Ohio Valley of Kentucky, Indiana, and Ohio who held positions with the federal government. The scripts are arranged in order by broadcast date. Correspondence dealing with the broadcasts in 1962 and 1963 can be found following the scripts for those years. The following is a list of prominent Kentuckians and other national figures whose "profiles" appear in the "Personalities in Your Government" files. The names are listed alphabetically with the date of the broadcast following.
