Dear Fred:
I was so sorry that I did not get to see you before I left Cleveland.
I tried to call you on Friday morning, but they said that you had checked out.
I don't know when anything pleased me so much as your election to
the presidency. I think it is a perfectly splendid thing and am so glad that
the house of delegates had sense enough to do it, particularly at this time when
a real leader is needed. It made me have more faith in the House of Delegates
than I have ever had before, because I didn't think there was any chance for
another surgeon to be made president, particularly this year since Frank was
elected last year. It is a marvelous thing, and I am so thrilled about it.
I did so enjoy seeing you the little while that we got together.
I know how busy you were though and that you didn't have much time. One of the
highlights of my trip was the dance that I had with your young daughter.
At the present time Isabel has our four children in South Dakota
visiting my Mother and Father, so that I am a bachelor and very much alone.
They will be gone until about the first of July, at which time three of the
children will go to camp.
t With my very best to you, Edith, and all the family, I am
Sincerely, ‘ _
