  Members, Board of Trustees:

            SUPPLEMENTAL RECOMMENDATIONS OF THE PRESIDENT

I. Department Chairman Named

  Recommendation: that Bernard Kern, Professor, Department of Physics and
  Astronomy, be named Chairman of the Department of Physics and Astronomy,
  effective July 1, 1967.

  Background: Professor Kern is well qualified to serve as Chairman of the De-
  partment of Physics and Astronomy and the recommendation for his appointment
  has the concurrence of his colleagues in the department as well as the adminis-
  tration of the College.

  Dr. Roy Fletcher Gabbard was named Acting Chairman of the Department of
  Physics, effective September 1, 1965. The University is grateful to Dr. Gabbard
  for his willingness to serve in this capacity in addition to his teaching and
  research duties and for the fine leadership he has given the Department during this
  interim period.

II. Appointments and/or Other Staff Changes

  Recommendation: that approval be given to the appointments and/or other changes
  which require Board action and that the report relative to appointments and/or
  changes already approved by th-e administration be accepted.

  Background: Approval of the Board of Trustees is required for all appointments
  to positions with the rank of Associate Professor and above, for promotions, for
  the granting of tenure, and for salary changes above $12, O0Q for non-academic
  personnel and $15, 000 for academic personnel. All other appointments and/or
  changes may be made by the President and reported to the Board.
