FOREWORD

Education in a democracy is based upon the belief that the in-
dividual should have the opportunity to develop to his maximum.
In implementation of this ideal, society has established the school to
assist in the individual’s development. The high school, vocational—
technical school, college and university each in its own special
way assists in the educational development of the individual. The
student or school personnel which assists the individual in making his
decisions relating to the kind of education he wishes or the particular
school he may wish to enter needs specific information pertaining
to curricula, admission requirements, tuition costs, loans, scholar—
ships and self—help opportunities.

This bulletin has been developed to help those individuals, school
counselors, teachers and other school personnel who have special
need for this type of information.

Harry M. Sparks
“Superintendent of Public Instruction

”Now President of Murray State University.

PREFACE

The high school student who is planning to attend a college, uni-
versity or vocational-technical school must consider a number of fac-
tors in making his decision. Direct and up-to—date information free of
confusing extraneous material is most valuable to the student and
his parents in making his decision.

For some time the Division of Guidance Services has published
on a periodic basis a bulletin entitled, “Scholarships, Loans and Self-
Help Opportunities in Kentucky Colleges.” An effort has been made
in this bulletin to include some facts and information about Ken-
tucky Colleges and Universities. A section on vocational—technical
schools has been added to provide information for use in counseling
students interested in vocational training.

Appreciation is expressed: to all of the colleges and universities
who provided information for this bulletin; to Mrs. Mary Alta Tucker,
Vocational Education, who supplied the information pertaining to
the area vocational—technical schools; and in particular to Mrs. Louise
Switzer, Division of Guidance Services for her work in compiling and
editing the information of this bulletin.

It is hoped that the information contained in the bulletin will be
valuable to those counseling with students interested in college or
vocational education in the high school or post—high school.

Marshall Swain, assistant superintendent for
Pupil Personnel Services

Kearney Campbell, director, Division of Guidance Services
