Collection Overview
- Biography / History
- The Kentucky Court of Appeals was created by Kentucky's first constitution in 1792 and consisted of three justices with jurisdiction over all judgements originating from the lower courts. The Court of Appeals remained the highest court in Kentucky until 1975 when the Kentucky Supreme Court was created. Currently, the Court of Appeals serves as the intermediate appellate court and consists of fourteen justices.

- The collection consists of a printed notice sent to Clerk at the Circuit Court in Springfield from Jacob Swigert, the Kentucky Court of Appeals. The document notifies the recipient of new instructions to clerks and lawyers practicing before the Court of Appeals, regarding records, bonds, writs of error, appeals, taxes, process, docket, commonwealth cases, warning orders, practice, mandates, and executions.
