I I
W`l'NCHES”FEl`t, KENTIWYKY, I}
Auousr, 1862;
DEAR Sm: At the solicitation of many of my friends I have con-
sented to present my name for PmNcu¤Ar. CLERK of the next. House of
Representatives of Kentucky—the late worthy Clerk having been
elected to the important position of Auditor of Public Accounts for the
State.
In presenting myself for this position, I do not come before you
without qualifications or experience, having served eight years as As-
sistant and four years as Principal Clerk of the Senate of Kentucky,
and, so far as I know or believe, with the hearty approbation of those
who honored me with the position.
I have been a Union man from the commencement of the struggle
U to overthrow my Country, and have given all of my influence and all
of my energies, along with the Union men of Old Kentucky, to pre-
vent Secessionism from getting even a foothold therein.
If I should be honored with the position I seek, I shall do every-
thing in my power to meet the entire approbation of the Representa-
tives of the people.
I refer the Members of the House of Representatives elect, as to
my qualifications, both to Senators and Representatives who served in
the Kentucky Legislature from 1839 to 1852, as well as to the Public
Officers at the Seat of Government for those years, who are yet
living. Very respectfully,
THEOD()RE KOHLHASS.
