The Light Teiora I left Louisville I went is th desk to pay my bill, and

was assured bi The clerk that he had been insaructed not to allow me :0 pay the

bill, and qno d me a card for my room on which this was written. I told him I was

sure thafi it was a mistake and that I was to pay for my room, but he said no,thai

ho had had positive instructions and that he would not take money from me for it;

so I could do nothing more, but the next morning I was informed that it was a mistake,
so I asked the manager, Mr. Shiroman, if he would be kind enough to assure you that
I had done all in my power to pay the bill and that the m0nay had been refuaod under
this mistaken idea. Now, fearing thai fllis may not have seemed of enough moment

to him so haye mentioned it to you I want to write and tell you myseIf that I had

never for a moment thought that the bill for my room was to be paid by the hostesses

of the convention. I tried to see you before leaving the hotel, but was iold Lhai
you were not in your room.

I think we had really azuost brilliafi.Convonbion, and I think great
good is going to result from it, and from all the expressions I heard it seemed to me

tham Kentucky, as roprzscnted by Louisville at least, was quite arouSGd to haing a

I think that my own State Permsylvania and Kentucky have the: same
J
nmnber of delegates, but I assure you we are coming up with a much larger delegation
next year, and perhaps we can run a race, and who knows bu that we may have as large
a delegation as New York another year. We are going to try anyhow, and our Stats
Convention the last of this month is to meet in the reception room of our City Hall,

and the city is going; to give us free illuminations just as it does for other visiting

Conventions. This is really quite an innovation for L15. On the different evenings,

five in number I believe, we meet in different parts of the city, once in a big,

Opera HOuse, once in the factory district, once in the ball room of the Bellevue
Stratford, our society hotel, and so on. Really, we are wa'ku’nogr up in Pennsylvania .
I have just been writing let’s rs of appreciation to the various Chairmen of
the local committees in Louisville thanking them for their cooperation. We had been
corresponding for acne months and making plans, but the various Chairmen really did
splendid work. I think we had the best local arrangenents we have had since New
Orleans. So often I am hampered in trying to do the work because the local people
write assuring me that they know exactly what is '20 be done, and often when I reach
the scene of campaign, I find that nothing has been accomplished, and I am then
hampered by the Chairmen Who have been appointed and are in authority, but who are
neither willing to do the work themselves nor assist me in doing it, but simply

stand in the way. I think I have never had such hearty cooperation as in Louisville

and I think the results were splendid.

 Nov.Ioth, I9II.

Dear Members of the Committee,

By mistake I misdirected this letter and
it was returned to me unclaimed. This turns out fortunately, as there
is disagreement among our Committee about the advisability of admitting
this society without farther thought; and your chairman will not write
again to this society(until she hears for the other fiemhers of the Com—

mittee.

Very truly yours,
