Dear Miss Clay:-

I am afraid I am handing you a sOmewhat troublesome question
to deal with at just the time that you are campaigning in Ohio, and I am
very sorry. However, I am obliged to do it, so I am enclosing an inquiry
from Miss Mary Winger in regard to the joining of her society - the
Limited Suffrage League of Pennsylvania.

I hope you are finding the Ohio work inspiring as well as
difficult. I know that any campaigning is hard work but if victory seems
pretty sure it gives one strength.

With very best wishes for the success of it all.

Mrs. Mary Ware Bennett,
505 Fifth Ave., N.Y.
My dear Mrs, Bennett:

About five years ago the Kansas Equal Suffrage Association,
for reasons that seemed expedient to those prenent at that
convention, voted to withdraw for a time from the N,A.W;SBAE
This was a surprise where it became known over the State, and a
matter of painful regret to many.

At our convention this time, held at Wichita on May
8th, it was unanimously voted that we make application for rein~
statement in the N.A.WaS»A., and as secretary of the Kansas
Equal Suffrage Association, I am most happy to present this
request that comes from hundreds of members, that we be once more
received into the family fold. On receipt of a favorable reply
from the National we shall be pleased to and the dues for
three hundred members.

With pleasure, I am

Sincerely youro,

(Signed) Helen M, Backer.

Chicago, June 12, 1912.

Dear State President:—

At the time of the Mississippi Valley Conference,
Bevaral of the State Presidents were talking about the necea~
sity of united action for the changing of our National Consti—
tution so that it would be no lomger possible for a few persons
present in a state flalegation at a National Convention to cast
the whole vote for the state, and it waa our opinion that Sec-
tion 4, referred to in the nofiice herewith, should be taken out
of the National Constitution.

lf_you would join the other Prehidents in a

this notice , please put your name to the cncloxcd and remail

to me. Then 1 will out all the nmnea on one sheet and send
to the General Office a at Headquarters, in compliance with
Conatitutional renuirementa under Artficla 8.

Yours very truly,

938 Fina Arts Building.
