Miss Laura M. Clay,

Richmond, Kentucky.
My dear Miss Clay:

Your letter of August 3rd was received this morning, and we are
very glad to have the definite date of your coming. We will have you
stop on the 4th either at Kansas City or Topeka. If we find that Mrs.
Johnston can come to meet you at Kansas City, we will make that the
place, and have you speak there on the 4th, otherwise we will bring
you to *opekag Your work will really begin on the 5th at Abilene,
and from there Mrs. Hoffman will take you over the Fifth district,
which lies in the north central part of the State, from there you will
go to the Sixth district, and if we have time down into-the Seventh,
Fourth, and First districts.

Mrsa Johnston hopes to be with you a part of the time while you
are taking this trip. We are so glad that you are to be with us,
and will do all we can to make your stay pleasant and comfortable.

Sincerely yours,

My dear Miss Clay w
I am very much opposed to calling a small

society with only a few branches a State Association, but I
suppose that7this one in Ohio fulfils the conditions set down
in the Constitution, it must be admitted. I do not like their
platform very well. We want the ballot beeeuse_it% ours, and not
alone for what it will do. Do you know anything about the stand»
ing of the officers of this society? I vote ”yes" with these pro,
visos, - that the society give ample proof of its membership and
standing, and that it be induced to call itself the Equal Franchise
Association of Six Counties in Ohio. It is for from a State society,
in membership or plan of work. As you say, Kansas and Nevada did not
need a vote provide' they fulfilled the conditions of the membership
Article, as T stated, As I understand it, it is only those
who come in under the new proviso that must be voted upon:

Yours sincerely,

 KAHSAS EQUAL SUFERAGE ASSOCIATION.

617 Mills Puilding.
Topeka, Kansas, August 10,.1918.

Dear Caumrker ;;

If the vote were taken tomorrow would your county give a majority
for suffrage? ‘Every oounty_ohou1d. You will not want yours to fail;
There are only about ninet§’daye loft, and we must not let one page
without doing our beet to get votes for the amendment.

Send one or two energetic persona into every school district in
VOur county to complete the canvass and organization, where it hao not
been done. Their expenses should be paid.

Do all the publicity work you possibly can this month. Use your
newspapers. But there are other opportunities. Fetch the candidates,
and when they put up their plea for votes on the telegraph poles, trees
and fences, paste or tack up a "Votes for Women“ placard next to it.
The whole State should be plaoarded within the next month so that no
farmer can ride into town without reading it many times. This is not
new it was tried and won in California. The farmers vote saved the day
there. Headguarters will be able to furnish these placards at a very
low price by having many thousands of them pronted at once. How many
will your COunty want} '

Every farmer should have flyera placed in his carriage or wagon
. when he comes to town. They can be tacked to trees or placed on too
rural Route bOxes also.

Secire the names, and send to Headquarters as econ as possible,
of each member of the County Central Committe of each political party.

1 If you have good speakers, men or women, who will speak for euf~
frage set them at work. Then send their names to Headquartere at 616
Mi 113 Puilding. '

Last but not least do not take part in partisan politics, but do
talk "Votes for fiemen“unoeaeingly.

Yours for victory,
Lucy B. Johnston,
