my opinion is that there is going to be a good deal of
influx of capital seeking investment in this kind of
property, for the reason that it is very much below
its real value. Furthermore, I am inclined to the
opinion that because of more munitions and supplies
' that the manufacturing interests in New England are
going to accumulate a good deal of money, which will
find its way into the purchase of rairoad stocks and
bonds, and through that medium be distributed in money
. centers and that it will make more money available for
investment in meritorious enterprises then heretofore.
* I on further inclined to the opinion that the people in
. kurope and especially in England are taking the view that
; during and after the Tar, the rate of taxation is going
? to be abnormally high, and they will endeavor to put out
quite a considerable amount of money in American invest-
ments and securities where it will be stable and secure,
and yet free from a high rate of taxation. i believe ,
, furthermore that the beet Opportunity we have had for
E several years in handling oocl prepertiee will arise in
i 1916, and I think that we ought to get ready to handle
L whatever property we can in that time.
L ' The prepertiee that I have in mind have
; been accurately surveyed and are well described, and the
a title: absolutely perfect and secure, so that we would be
¢ in position for quick action. I note your observations
V with respect to the intended purchasers, and will leave
3 that entirely to you, and I can see no reason why you
L should not join in this endeavor. Surely it would not
L affect your official goeition, and in no events you ought
2 not to be required to forage an Opportunity of making
é $100,000.00 when opportunity presents itself in a prayer
’ bueinese way. You can depend on me occupying a panic
1 tion with relation to the transaction, that the matter can
L ' run absolutely in my name, and I will take care of your
L share of the profite. These propatiee are situated on
L Buffalo creek, the East side of Big Sandy river, on Bull
L creek, Riddle creek, Prater creek and John's creek. I
I would recommend that you push this matter while these
L gentlemen are in the notion.

Dear Sir:-

The two big coal corporations which requested me to 31nd
them 5,000 acres of Elkhorn coal land have not yet sent an expert to
examine that 40,000 acre tract of land I told you about, so I have
resolved to give you the first choice. The weather being fine now is
the time for you to and your best man to examine all the Openings for

you.

The man who controls that 40,000 acre tract of land says
he has a200,000.00 tied up in it. He is well acquainted with the
Marrowbone and Shelby Creek coal fields. He knows alL.about the marrow-
bone saminations and Shelby Creek irregulatities, disturbances, faults,
pihch outs, thick and thin slates, draw slates, and thick and thin coal.

I never heard a man speak so enthusiastically of any coal
field as he speaks of that 40,000 acre tract of land.

Here are some of his statements: ”This land I am offering
you is the cream of the Elkhorn coal field. It is situated 14 miles
from the Pine Mountain Seistic disturbance. Everything lays regular
and nice. As you travel frOm the Big Sandy East, the mountains increase
in altitude and the tOp vein has a big cover over it. I can show you
the big Elkhorn vein of coal seven feet thick in one place, and it is
absolutely all clean coal and no draw slate. As you know, the Elkhorn
veins are not as uniform thickness, but they vary; but in all the open—
ings the thickness is satisfactory.

I can snow you the other Elkhorn seam 56" tnick and clean.
I can also show you the famious Auxier and Van bean vern 48” thick and
clean. In some places this vein is tipple height, while in other places
