Furthermore, I am inclined to the opinion that because of more munitions and supplies ' that the manufacturing interests in New England are going to accumulate a good deal of money, which will find its way into the purchase of rairoad stocks and bonds, and through that medium be distributed in money . centers and that it will make more money available for investment in meritorious enterprises then heretofore. * I on further inclined to the opinion that the people in . kurope and especially in England are taking the view that ; during and after the Tar, the rate of taxation is going ? to be abnormally high, and they will endeavor to put out quite a considerable amount of money in American invest- ments and securities where it will be stable and secure, and yet free from a high rate of taxation. i believe , , furthermore that the beet Opportunity we have had for E several years in handling oocl prepertiee will arise in i 1916, and I think that we ought to get ready to handle L whatever property we can in that time. Dear Sir:- The two big coal corporations which requested me to 31nd them 5,000 acres of Elkhorn coal land have not yet sent an expert to examine that 40,000 acre tract of land I told you about, so I have resolved to give you the first choice. The weather being fine now is the time for you to and your best man to examine all the Openings for you. The man who controls that 40,000 acre tract of land says he has a200,000.00 tied up in it. He is well acquainted with the Marrowbone and Shelby Creek coal fields. He knows alL.about the marrow- bone saminations and Shelby Creek irregulatities, disturbances, faults, pihch outs, thick and thin slates, draw slates, and thick and thin coal. I never heard a man speak so enthusiastically of any coal field as he speaks of that 40,000 acre tract of land. Here are some of his statements: ”This land I am offering you is the cream of the Elkhorn coal field. It is situated 14 miles from the Pine Mountain Seistic disturbance. Everything lays regular and nice. As you travel frOm the Big Sandy East, the mountains increase in altitude and the tOp vein has a big cover over it. I can show you the big Elkhorn vein of coal seven feet thick in one place, and it is absolutely all clean coal and no draw slate. As you know, the Elkhorn veins are not as uniform thickness, but they vary; but in all the open— ings the thickness is satisfactory. I can snow you the other Elkhorn seam 56" tnick and clean. I can also show you the famious Auxier and Van bean vern 48” thick and clean. In some places this vein is tipple height, while in other places it is not quite so high. I can show you another vein 54“ thick above this one. The top vein of all is eight feet thick; it has from six to _ eight inches of dirt in it. Coal exports call this vein the Thacker seam of coal. It is now being extensively worked on the N&I and is cansidered a very high grade coal. They used an oil well drill in seinding and they cut thru a ten foot vein of coal 160 feet down. They had a coal expert there to watch what they cut thru. The export reporte
