lm'dear nr. Harkins -
Your note of $925.00 matures with us march
25, 1931.
This loan, as you know, we have been carrying
’ for a long time, and our Finance Committee re-
quests that payment be made in full at maturity
unless you can arrange for the consolidation of
the two loans which we are carrying - $925.00 and
$5,200.00 - and submitting to us good marketable
collateral, suchas stock of the Bank of Josephine.
I trust you will make arrangements as indicated
since we are anxious to have the notes liquidated
or collateralized with proper, marketable secur-
ities.

I Dear Mr Harkins:
i
_ I thank you for your letter of
4 the 21st, which came this morning, giving me the
information which Daisy Hale Howard gave you con—
cerning the efforts of Willie and Harry "oward
to obtain release from the Reformetory at Frankfort. ~
Immediately upon receiving your tele— '
phone messcge a few days ago I set about to invc ti—
gate to find out what truth there was, if any, in
the statement which L"31‘s Howard gave you. I have
instructed certain officials to make a thorough
investigation and they are at work upon it. Several
persons have Wired Superintendent Roach of the
institution, telling him of this plan for Howards
to be released. We are making every effort to learn
the truth and to be guided by it.
There is not a possibility however of
either of the Howard boys being released very soon.
In fact, the one you mentioned will not be eligible
for parole for about five years. We are trying to find
out who the Superintendent of Sunday School is to whom
Mrs Howard has referred. If any one at the institution
is attempting to extort money that person, no matter
whom he may be, will be released and suspended upon our
discovery of it. It is not going on.
I thank you Sincerely for calling me
by phone and giving me such information as you had and
also for writing me. If you obtain other informa-
tion upon which you think reliance may be placed
along this line, please let me have it. 0

Dear Sir:
Your note for $225.00 indorsed by H. F. fatten was due
and protested at this bank October 15, 1951, protest fees
being $1.85. We had hOped that as you live in town and
your indorser also, that you would not permit this note
to be protested, but the matter seems as usual. The
bank has demanded that a payment of $125.00 be made on this
note and the board has informed.the cashier that no
lesser amount will be accepted. Please give this matter
attention, and without further delay.

Yours very truly
