While in India, Victor discusses the variety of cultures, styles of clothing, religion, castes, money and conversion rates, politics, how shopping and haggling is handled, getting tours of the country through the Red Cross, spending time with friends, buying gifts for his family, rumors about when he might move, visiting local temples, the weather, and divide between the English and Indians. In China, he discusses the weather, cost of goods, how long he will remain in the country, advice for his family on finding a home, saving money, quality of food and healthcare, and his plans once he returns home. There are two letters in the collection sent to Victor from his mother, discussing celebrating Easter and commentary that his father has remarried quickly after the divorce.
