OCLC ACQUISITIONS SUBSYSTEM
On November ll and l2 Gail Kennedy attended a workshop on the OCLC
Acquisitions Subsystem held at SOLINET Offices in Atlanta. The workshop
provided hands-on experience with the subsystem, which includes both
ordering and fund accounting. ‘
` The Acquisitions Department will be learning how to use the
‘ Acquisitions Subsystem in the next several weeks and will begin testing _,
the system in the near future. Full—scale transition from BATAB to OCLC
for Acquisitions would not occur until July 1982, at the earliest.
Acquisitions staff will give demonstrations of the OCLC Acquisitions
Subsystem in the next few months and also provide training sessions for
other campus libraries who are interested. Training sessions for other
libraries in Kentucky may also be offered next year. All of these will
be announced in the GREEN BEAN.
LSO CHRISTMAS LUNCHEON
This year's Christmas luncheon on Friday, December 18, 1981
promises to be a most festive event. If you missed the sign—up lists
for food but would like to attend, please check with Alan Schaplowsky
(7-3811) and let him know what kind of dish you are planning to bring.
A dish should serve around eight people. Non—LSO members are asked to
contribute one dollar (in addition to the _dish); please pay your
departmental LSO representative. And please remember to bring along a
serving spoon. -
Anyone wishing to participate in the exchanging of gifts, please
bring a wrapped present. This can be a gag, a white elephant, or
something nice--but should not disappoint the receiver. The project is
based on the principle "bring one — get one."
LSO is again collecting toys for needy children to be distibuted by
the local Fire Department. Any appropriate gift is welcome; please mark
it according to age group and sex, if necessary. The presents will be
collected at the Luncheon.

LSO THANKSGIVING
Thanks again to the staff for the wonderful Thanksgiving donations
for Paul and Betty Ritchey. They are very handicapped but such
wonderful people. They gave us a lift just talking with them but you
gave them the financial lift they truly needed.
We were given $32.25i in money which we spent for turkey, milk,
potatoes, etc. There was a large quantity of canned food and staples
which will last for some time.
This will not only give them a wonderful Thanksgiving, but also
i help through Christmas.
