Collection Overview
- Biography / History
- Burton Milward, Sr. (1911-2001) worked for the Lexington Leader as a reporter and later as an editor on the newspaper's editorial page after it merged with the Lexington Herald. Following his retirement from the newspaper, he worked as a researcher for the Henry Clay Papers project. He was best known for his knowledge of regional and local Kentucky history. In addition, he authored several books including William 'King' Solomon (1974), The Lexington Club, 1860-1985 (1985) and History of the Lexington Cemetery (1989).
- Scope and Content
- Burton Milward Lexington Leader editorial scrapbooks (dated 1946-1966; 2.1 cubic feet; 6 boxes) consists of scrapbooks containing newspaper editorials written by Burton Milward from 1946 until 1966. The editorials primarily contain commentary about local Lexington and Kentucky state issues as well as national and international politics. The scrapbooks, organized by year, were disbound and stored in folders. Each scrapbook contains an index at the beginning.
