- D. Hockersmith began publishing the Shelbyville, Kentucky, newspaper the Kentucky Advocate in 1827.

- The collection consists of the June 25, 1828, issue of the Kentucky Advocate, which belonged to Henry Clay. Clay's name is inscribed in the upper left hand corner of the first page.
