Biography / History
Poet. Mary E. Wilson was a native of the Maysville, Ky. area where she spent most of her life. In 1854 she was married to Morgan L. Betts of Detroit and died suddenly a short time thereafter at the age of 31. The ten years before her marriage, Mrs. Betts had many of her short poems published in local, regional and national publications.
Scope and Content
This is the scrapbook of poetry by Mary E. Wilson Betts. Contained in the scrapbook is handwritten poetry as well as numerous clippings of her poetry published in various newspapers such as the New York Saturday Emporium, the Detroit Times, the Louisville Journal and the Maysville Eagle.
