Collection Overview
- Biography / History
- During the Civil War, Norman S. Andrews, surveyor and engineer, first served as First Lieutenant in Battery F, 1st Michigan Light Artillery (1861-1864) before his promotion to Colonel in the summer of 1864. He commanded the 12th U. S. Colored Artillery until the end of the war. In 1866, he became U.S. Marshal for the Eastern Division.

- The collection consists of a letter from Colonel Norman S. Andrews to Dr. [T. F. Bill] in Louisville, inviting him to send the his best speakers on [widow's day] to Lexington where the army will have a barbeque.
