Collection Overview

Biography / History
The Nachod Automatic Signal System was used by electric railways and trolleys throughout the country and was operated by the movement of the car itself. This technology was patented in 1906 by the Nachod Signal Co. of Louisville, Kentucky, and was much safer than signals operated by car crews, hence the Company's slogan "Nachod Spells Safety."

Nachod Signal Company photographs (dated circa 1910; 0.07 cubic feet; 1 box) consists of five silver gelatin photographs depicting the Nachod Signal Company's automatic signals on railways in Louisville, Kentucky. All photographs are framed with "Nachod Spells Safety" on the top of the frame and "Compliments of Nachod Signal Co., Inc. Louisville, KY" on the bottom of the frame. The photographs depict the signals mounted on posts in different locals in Louisville, Kentucky.
