- Katherine Graham Peden (1926–2006) held several appointed positions in both Kentucky state government and at the national level under the Kennedy, Johnson, and Carter Presidential administrations during the 1960s and 1970s. Peden won the Democratic Primary for the Kentucky United States Senate seat in 1968, ultimately losing to her Republican opponent Marlow Cook in the general election.
