An ardent animal lover (especially goats and cats) and avid collector of antiques, he lived in both Lexington, Kentucky, and Florida Keys, Florida. Additionally, he exhibited regularly in New York, Ohio, and Florida. He met Tennessee Williams in 1959 and became life-long friends as well as, possibly, lovers.
