Biography / History
Lexington, Kentucky was founded in 1775. Samuel M. Wilson, a Lexington politician and historian, gathered materials relating to the 150th anniversary celebration in 1925.
Scope and Content
This is a collection of papers relating to the sesquicentennial celebration of Lexington, Ky. It includes many materials relating to the staging of a commemorative pageant, including a typescript of the program, plans for a municipal parade, and other papers relating to the celebration. These include correspondence, an account book, telegrams, drafts of speeches, some photographs, and newspaper clippings. A related piece is 56M27, a blueprint design for a commemorative tablet which was to be erected in memory of John Maxwell, an early Lexingtonian.
