- Biography / History
- R. J. Breckinridge (1800-1871) was a Kentucky State Representative, Kentucky Superintendent of Public Instruction, and a candidate for delegate to the Kentucky Constitutional Convention in 1849. He was the son of John Breckinridge, and in 1823, he married Ann Sophonisba Preston.
- John Cabell Breckinridge (1821-1875) was a member Kentucky House of Representatives, a U.S. Representative from Kentucky, a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 1856, Vice President of the United States from 1857 to 1861, candidate for President of the United States in 1860, a United States Senator from Kentucky in 1861, and the Confederate States Secretary of War in 1865. He was the son of Joseph Cabell Breckinridge.
- Scott Dudley Breckinridge, Sr. (1882-1941) was a physician in Lexington, an author, and was the U.S. Fencing Champion in 1906 and 1914. He competed in 1912 Olympics. He married Gertrude Ashby Bayne. He was the son of Joseph Cabell Breckinridge, Sr.
- Robert Lee Breckinridge was born in 1825 and died in 1906.
- Scope and Content
- The Collection on the Breckinridge family (undated; cubic feet; 15 items) consists of photographs collected specifically for their relation to the Breckinridge family of Lexington, Kentucky. Included are engravings, a tintype, and a large albumen portrait of the Breckinridge family in which the members are identified. Members of the family depicted in the photographs includes Robert Jefferson Breckinridge, Joseph Cabell Breckinridge, and Scott Dudley Breckinridge. Several of the photographs are unidentified.
