In the letters, John discusses military life in New Guinea, the Philippines, and various Japanese-occupied islands; getting flight time for missions, running into friends, celebrating holidays, receiving letters and packages from home, how much he misses his wife, his frustration with the mail, his efforts to get more flight time, hopes that the war will end soon, and his excitement at being home within two months.
- The John Cassedy Jr. letters collection is part of the Wade Hall Collection of American Letters, which includes correspondence and diaries from all over North America covering the time period of the Civil to Korean Wars. The materials were collected by Wade Hall and document everyday men and women.
