-m..: —| -\o “P —BUILDING HERE.

Every house in Greenbelt is designed and built for long time use.
Before plans were completed and construction begun, leading
architects and engineers were called into consultation to insure

the erection of buildings that would combine a maximum of beauty
and servicealility at low cost. Houses are of 2 stories, well
insulated throughout. varying in size from 2 rooms and bath, to six
rooms and bath. A few apartments are also being built. The case~
ment windows which can be seen in this.picture are built at lOW‘COSt
and yet provide the greatest air and light and good looks. The same
careful planning and foresight can be seen in the building of the
whole town. The 1,000 houses now being built can be doubled in num-
ber as the town grows. Individual houses can be altered or en~
larged as the family increases in size. Handy closets contain fix—
tures which can be converted to an extra bathroom with.little cost.
Electric, water, and telephone services are complete and up to date,
while heating is provided by a central oil~heat plant for each group
of houses. (Resettlement Administration Photo)
