Dear Sir:— . ‘
in January last an attachment was servcé on the L & R Ry. CO.,
at Jackson in favor of J. Vise.fiegins against 3am fiouth, on employee at
that time of the Railway Company, who, I understcnfi, is 3 colored man.
By this attachment, the plaintiff sought to reach and hold 271.80 of money I
due South from the Railway Company. The Feilway Company has in its hence
an em unt flue South equal to the cununt attached one it seems that Pouth
has exprcunly admittefi his inocbtecnoso to Kegins and asks that the amount
due Regine be paifi him.
I have the impression that you were consultcé by South
in the matter and have had some connection with the coco one, therefore,
I hesitate to ofvisc the E‘ieilwey Company to go ahoea and pay the money
without knowing exactly what relation you may sustain to the case. Of
course the money can he paid into Court under the attachment, but before
Joing that, or taking any other action regarding it, I will be obliged if
you will kinuly write me just what your connection, if any, is with the
case.
Kindly let me hear from you promptly about the matter,
and oblige, '

Dear Sir:-

Anewering your letter of the TBnd instant in regard to attachment
in favor of J. Wise Engine against Sam South upon moneye flue South from
the L. & R., i fie not think it woule be advisable to pay this money to
H gins, or to pay it into Court, until We can be he tor advieeé as to the
relation of Kr. J. i. Edge to the suit. I have the impression fihnt some
time ago, Hi. EFge gave me to uneoretana that fie hafi been eensultefl or
employee by South and it may be he has some claim for fee against South
or hasaavieed Seufih that in some way the claim of Hegins or the attachment
may be defeated. This being so, it might be a mistake to pay the money
until we are heifer advieefi concerning Hr. T ge's relation to the cane ené
I am Writing him te—eay, aekin. that he notify me just what his connec-
tion is with this bueineee. As sefin as I hear from him, I will write
you further in regurfl 80 it. For the preeenfi, I think our safesfi course
will be simply to held on to the money. .

Very firmly yours,

Dear Sir:—
Cornelius Bundrant, formerly employed b; this Corpany
as Boilerwasher, has an amount of $55.42 due him on November, 1915,
» x
payrolls, and an amount of $19.72 on December,1915, rolls.
His wife, Hrs. Ella Bundrant, has been in my office several times
asking that this Company pay to her the amounts above stated
advising us that Bundrant had "skipped" the country on account of
trouble at Clay City sometime since, and that his present where~
abouts are unknown. She delivered to us an order alleged to have
been written and signed by Cornelius Bundrant, authorizing the
Company to pay anyamount as may be due him to his wife. We,
of course, did not entertain the order as We were not sure as
to its being genuine and referred it to the Paymaster at Louisville,
with the request that he advise us as to his desire. This
order has been lost in the shuffle and we are not at this time
;able to produce it. Hrs. Bundrant was not satisfied with
{the information that we gave her and has since been in communica—
éfi tion with Attorney J.A.Edge relative to requiring the Company to
imake the payments direct to her. Will you kindly advise me
Ewhat is necessary in this case, conferring with Mr. Edge if desired.
Yours truly;
