ADOLPH RUPPI have heard "Great Moments" many times and every time it gives me additional thrills. You will never realize the great memories that are recorded for you in this record and I believe everyone will get tremendous thrills in reliving these great evenings.
CAWOOD LEDFORDThere were no notes or lists of questions. The only thing we had was a list of game tapes which were coming up next. Rupp didn't have a single note, and yet he was right every time.
JOE CALDWELL, Lexington LeaderThe idea for the record originated nearly a year ago and it has taken a dozen people 10 months to put it together. It has been done by the Committee of 101 not because the Committee wanted a money-making project for this year, but just a basketball related project to concentrate on. Now it looks as if they have struck a gold mine.
MIKE MERSCH, Ky. Post & Times StarThe record is an invaluable page in history. It captures the highlights and the disappointments of a career that may never be equaled.

GOVERNOR LOUIE B. NUNN, the Commonwealth' chief executive and chairman of the Board of Trustees, believes strongly that self-reliance, pride and courage are the by-products of intercollegiate athletics. His interest in Kentucky basketball was emphasized when he presented his first "Governor's Trophy" to Wildcat Coach Adolph Rupp. Gov. Nunn, 45, is a native of Barren County. He attended Bowling Green Business University, the University of Cincinnati and the University of Louisville, where he earned a law degree in 1950. He is an avid sportsman and spectator and a successful attorney who has served in both executive and judicial positions. The third Republican this century to be elected Governor in Kentucky, he formerly served as a county judge and city attorney.
K
PRESIDENT OTIS A. SINGLETARY came to Lexington from the University of Texas, Austin, where he was executive vice chancellor for academic affairs. Dr. Singletary, who is eighth president of the University, served a total of eight years at Texas, progressing during seven (1954-61) of those years from instructor to professor, associate dean of Arts and Sciences and assistant to the president. Then for five years (1961-66), he was chancellor of the University of North Carolina, although he was on leave from October 1964 to January 1966 to serve as director of the Job Corps, Office of Economic Opportunity.
K
ATHLETICS DIRECTOR HARRY C. LANCASTERMissing from the University of Kentucky basketball bench this season is the familiar figure of Harry C. Lancaster, who stepped up as athletic director late last season after being associated with Adolph Rupp since 1946. Lancaster remained as Rupp's chief assistant until last season's end and then left the coaching ranks to concentrate on the complex job of running the Wildcat athletics program. A native of Paris, he is a graduate of Georgetown College with a master's degree from the University of Kentucky. MEMBERS OF THE BOARDGuiding the UK athletics program are board members (seated, left to right) Dr. Glenwood L. Creech, Dr. Ralph Angclucci, Dr. A. D. Chandler was out of state when the picture was taken. Clay Maupin is treasurer.
Kentucky's athletic program, a well-balanced and ambitious activity featuring intercollegiate competition in ten different sports, is organized under the Department of Athletics and a corporation known as the University of Kentucky Athletics Association.
The program is conducted without overemphasis or sacrifice of educational objectives and in strict compliance with the rules of the University, the Southeastern Conference and the National Collegiate Athletic Association.
A board of directors, headed by the President of the University in the capacity of chairman, maintains overall policy supervision of the athletic program. In addition to the UK President, board officials include the Vice-President for Student Affairs as vice-chairman and Dr. W. L. Matthews in the capacity of scretary. Fourteen other men drawn from the University faculty and the general public also serve on the board as appointees of the president as does a student representative.
Supervising the steady growth and balanced development of the athletic program is Director of Athletics Harry C. Lancaster.

SEVENTEENTH ANNUAL UK INVITATIONAL
Former champion Dayton returns to the University of Kentucky Invitational Tournament for the fifth time while Duke is making its second and the Naval Academy a first appearance in the event.
Coach Adolph Rupp's Wildcats, seeking their 12th UKIT title, have won the past four tournaments.
Dayton first appeared in the tournament in 1955 and defeated Utah in the first round and Kentucky (89-74) in the final. The Flyers appeared again in 1956, '64 and '67 and have a 3-5 record for tournament play.
Navy has appeared once in the Coliseum, losing 82-69 to the Wildcats in a regular season game Dec. 29, 1958. The Midshipmen and Wildcats have met one other time, with Navy winning, 32-26, at home Jan. 18, 1928.
Dayton's 1955 UKIT victory over Kentucky is the only Flyer win in four games played since
1947. The Wildcats won the series opener, 70-29, at home. "Rupp's Runts" defeated Don Donoher's Flyers, 86-79, in the Mideast Regional March 11, 1966, in Iowa City, Iowa, and won again, 88-85, in the 1967 UKIT.
The Wildcats defeated Duke, 83-79, in their last meetingthe finals of the 1966 NCAA Regionalto gain an 8-2 series edge over the Blue Devils.
Kentucky has won 27 and lost five games in 16 previous tournaments.
The Wildcats defeated Michigan, 1 12-104, in the first round and Army, 80-65, in the championship game last year.
Wildcats Mike Pratt, Mike Casey and Dan Issel made the All-UKIT team with Rudy Tom-janovich of Michigan, Dick Simmons of Army and L. C. Bowen of Bradley. Issel was named most valuable player. Issel and Pratt, each an All-SEC first team choice, are back this season.

Does a store have to put on a side show
to get attention?
Must there be psychedelic lights? Electronic sounds? Knock-em-dead decor?
Or can't it just be a nice place to shop. With lots of handsome clothes. To see. To try. To buy.
With great men's clothes, for example. In many more than one measly size. Plus lots of exclmives. Which does guarantee one a certain measure of individuality. Isn't that enough?
Or must all salespeople be strictly under 25? Can't there be a judicious mix of people? There is something to be said for the older man, you know. He's awfully savvy about what to wear, where and when. And can save you time, money.
Now maybe all thw sounds fuddy-duddy. But you'd be surprised at how much noise the quiet approach generates. Not ear-splitting, to be sure. But more endurinif than the here today, gone tomorrow razzmatazz.
To see the quiet one in action, come to Craves, Cox . . . downtown and in Twfkmd,

The Coach . . .
Donald Donoher had a varied career as a high school and college basketball player, salesman and high school and college coach before taking over as head basketball coach at Dayton. Don, who has three brothers in the priesthood and a married sister, gained his first basketball knowledge while playing for Toledo Central Cathloc High from 1947-50. He played three years under the late Tom Blackburn at Dayton and was Flyer captain in the 1953-54 season. His five Dayton teams have compiled an 111-35 record, including an advance to the NCAA finals in 1967.
Flyers In '69
Two outstanding lettermen, Dan Sadlier and Dan Obrovac, have graduated, but Coach Donoher hopes George Janky and junior college transfer George Jackson will fill the gaps. Tom Crosswhite and Key May return with a year of valuable experience. Promising sophomores are Pat Murnen and Rex Gardecki. Flyer strength will be over-all balance with adequate size, scoring power and physical
strength.

The Coach . . .
At the age of 34 (as of Dec. 17), Bucky Waters has attained more goals than many men twice his age. After graduating from North Carolina State in 1958, he went to Ashe Central High in Jefferson, N. C, where his team won 22 of 26 games. He then joined Vic Bubas, new head coach at Duke, and compiled a 54-1 1 record in four seasons as head freshman coach. Bubas elevated Waters to the varsity bench. Waters was named head coach at West Virginia two years later and compiled a 70-41 record in four years. He brings to Duke this season a 146-56 lifetime record.
Blue Devils In '69
It is very likely that no Duke basketball team in recent seasons lost so much than did the 1 968-69 Blue Devils after a winning, although frustrating, season. Represented among the departures were four players who were regulars at one point during the season and one key reserve. The task of training an effective band of replacements for the graduated players is a big challenge to new coach Bucky Waters. Returning are three lettermen, led by leading scorers Randy Denton, Rick Katherman and Dick DeVenzio, along with Brad Evans, the most used substitute last year. Assisting Waters on the bench is Hubie Brown, who coached the Blue Devil Frosh in 1968-69 and was elevated to assistant varsity coach by Waters. Jack Schalow, a successful West Coast cage pilot, directs the freshmen.

The Coach . . .
Adolph F. Rupp, inducted into the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame last spring, stands atop his profession as the winningest basketball coach. While compiling an 814-175 record to date, he has garnered honor after honor, including four NCAA Tournament championships, an Olympic championship and many "Coach of the Year" honors. Now in his 40th year as head of the Wildcats, Rupp shows little signs of slowing down. He came to UK from the University of Kansas, where he was a member of Phog Allen's championship basketball teams, by way of Marshalltown, Iowa, and Freeport, III., high schools.
Wildcats In '69
Despite the losses of All-SEC guard Mike Casey, who injured a leg in an automobile accident last summer, and Phil Argento, who graduated, the Wildcats have been rolling in high gear and currently lead all national polls. Led by All-America center Dan Issel, All-SEC forward Mike Pratt and 1968-69 All-SEC sophomore Larry Steele, Rupp's bombers have averaged 106 points per game against such fine teams as West Virginia, Kansas, North Carolina and Indiana.
