It takes about an hour-anda-
half to drive from Louisville to
Lexington.

The UK and U of L chapters
of Kappa Sigma social fraternity
opted out of the easy way. and
made the 72-mile trip on foot.

“A lot of fraternities and

 

sororities do stuff like this. and
this is just one of the ways that
our fraternity gives back to the
community." said Matt Hogan. a
senior member of Kappa Sigma.

The chapters were continu-
ing an annual tradition to raise
money for disabled students at
their respective schools.

At midnight Friday the Kap
pa Sigma chapter at U of L hit
the ground running. With Satur-

day‘s UK-U of L game ball in
hand. fraternity members head-
ed east toward Lexington, stop-
ping at checkpoints, and passing
the ball from one runner to an-
other in a continuous, non-Stop
relay.

At approximately 7:00 am.
Saturday morning, the last run-
ner from U of L‘s Kappa Sigma
chapter reached the halfway
point. five miles west of Frank-

off to the first member of the
UK‘s chapter to continue the re-
maining 36 miles of the run.

At 1:00 pm. the last runner
from U K‘s Kappa Sigma chapter
finally reached Lexington. The
ball was presented to UK Senior
Associate Athletic Director Lar-
ry Ivy just outside Common-
wealth Stadium. just in time for
the 3:30 kickoff.

The UK chapter of Kappa
Sigma collected over $5.000 in
pledges from private and corpo-
rate sponsors. which they re—
ceived upon completion of the
run. The money was then given
to the Disability Resources De.
partment of UK. who will decide
how the money is to be allotted.
