- Biography / History
- Wendell Berry (b. 1934) is a Kentucky born writer, poet, essayist, and activist whose works focus on the theme of harmony with nature. Berry received both a Bachelor's and a Master's degree from the University of Kentucky and later taught creative writing at his alma mater (1964-1977; 1987-1992). His major works include Nathan Coulter: A Novel, Recollected Essays, 1965-1980, and The Broken Ground.

- Scope and Content
- The collection consists of two letters from Wendell Berry to an unknown poet referred to as Mr. Kingston. The first letter mentions his inability to contribute to a Thoreau project due to other commitments. Berry says that he would like to write on Thoreau in the future and encloses a prospectus for his recently published volume Findings. In the second letter, he mentions his recent purchase of fifty acres of land to save it from development and thanks Kingston for sending him a photograph. The collection also includes a postcard from Tanya Berry to Mr. Kingston.
