Collection Overview
- Biography / History
- Central Christian Church began in 1816, when Barton W. Stone, founder of the Disciples of Christ denomination, established a congregation in Lexington. It was formally created as the Hill Street (Christian) Church in 1832. The church later moved to Main Street and changed its name to correspond to that address. The congregation moved to Short Street in 1894 and adopted the present name, Central Christian Church.

- The Central Christian Church (Lexington, Kentucky) records (dated 1866-1944; 0.25 cubic feet; 3 items) comprise a church record book, a minute book of the Board of Elders, and a scrapbook entitled Chronicles of the First Christian Church Lexington, Ky. Continued Through the Main Street Christian Church and Central Christian Church. The record book contains a continuous recording of the events at the Central Christian Church, Board of Elders meeting minutes, and financial information. Additionally, the book is interleaved with similar documents. The minute book consists exclusively of minutes from the Board of Elders. The scrapbook, compiled by John Crittenden Taylor, traces the history of the church through photographs, biographical sketches, and a typescript timeline.
