Collection Overview

Biography / History
The Bowmar family owned the Woodford Sun newspaper from the late-1870s until 1942. The newspaper was based in Versailles, Kentucky, and was a consolidation of two other papers, the Woodford Weekly and the Midway Sun. Those two papers were consolidated by Reverend Benjamin Deering, who briefly owned the Woodford Weekly in the 1870s.
Scope and Content
The Bowmar family papers consist of correspondence, records, and legal documents relating to the Woodford Sun Company and the Woodford Sun newspaper in Versailles, Kentucky. Members of the Bowmar family involved with the Woodford Sun Company included A.A. Bowmar, D.M. Bowmar, and Marie Bowmar. Also included are a book of a child's drawings and some wedding announcements.
