Biography / History
The Medical Department of Transylvania University was established in 1799. It became the school's most distinguished component and achieved a size and prestige equal to any medical college in the nation. Due to competition with medical departments at schools in Louisville and Cincinnati, the medical school closed in 1859 after having taught 6,456 students and graduated 1,881 doctors.
Scope and Content
These two volumes contain matriculation lists and lists of graduates of the Medical school at Transylvania University in Lexington, Ky. The various lists, arranged chronologically, are signed by various deans, faculty secretaries and librarians. They include the students' names and hometowns.
