- Mary Burch Breckinridge was the wife of John Cabell Breckinridge, Vice President under James Buchanan (1856-1860) and Presidential candidate against Lincoln in 1860.
- Scope and Content
- The Mary Burch Breckinridge letters (dated 1864-1868; 0.1 cubic feet; 9 items) consist of letters written by Mrs. Breckinridge to her cousin, Mrs. George W. Johnson of Georgetown, Ky. The letters, written while Mrs. Breckinridge followed her husband, John C. Breckinridge, during the last years of the Civil War, describe experiences during and immediately following the war. The letters originate from various locations including Dalton, Georgia, Roanoke County, Virginia, Toronto, Ontario, England, Switzerland, Versailles, France, and Niagra, Ontario.
