Collection Overview

Biography / History
Judge James Hargis died as a result of the Hargis-Marcum-Cox-Callahan Feud. He was killed by his son, Beech Hargis at 2:45 on February 6, 1908, in Jackson, Kentucky. A drunken Beech killed his father with a Colt 45 that he stole from Judge Hargis earlier that week. He shot five bullets into the Judge, all hitting different regions of Hargis' body. When Beech was arrested and interviewed, he had no recollection of murdering his father and seemed to still be drunk. In following years, Beech disappeared from his home and his fate was unknown.
