Biography / History
Wilson's wife, Mary, was a descendent of Isaac Shelby, the first governor of Kentucky. Wilson traced the line to Wales.
Scope and Content
Also known as: Genealogy: Shelby family. This collection contains notes and correspondence of Samuel M. Wilson compiled from 1898 to 1943, during his genealogical research on the Shelby family of Kentucky. It includes a list of descendents and relatives of Isaac Shelby, abstracts of Virginia and Kentucky land office records, copies of marriage records, and correspondence relating to Wilson's search. There is also a typed copy of an enlistment roster for a company formed to fight the Ohio Indians in 1774, and a volume of Shelby family genealogy written in longhand by Susan Goodloe Hart Shelby.
